The 2010 AHDI-MTIA Advocacy Summit in Review

Last week AHDI and MTIA members took to Capitol Hill to educate legislators on the need for regulators to recognize the medical transcription sector’s valuable contribution to quality documentation and accelerated EHR adoption. Information about the outcome of this event can be found on the AHDI website. In addition, we are offering a free webinar in which Scott Shalett and Jason Eberstein of the Dewey Square Group and AHDI-MTIA staff member Greg Doggett will provide a recap, including information about the dozens of meetings members had with legislators and their staff, the hundreds of letters delivered to legislative offices, and major outcomes and policy implications of the associations’ advocacy efforts. Advocacy Summit attendees will share their stories, experiences, and thoughts from the event. Webinar participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and to offer comments. Why We Matter to Healthcare—MT Week 2010

Promoting the vital and contributory role of healthcare documentation specialists will be the central theme for National Medical Transcriptionist Week this year. As healthcare reform reshapes the delivery of patient services in the United States and regulatory agencies determine the definition of "meaningful use" of EHRs, there has never been a better opportunity for this sector to demonstrate its value in accurately and securely capturing America’s healthcare stories. This means aligning our key messages with healthcare’s goals and demonstrating why we matter to the health data capture process, both now and in the evolving EHR. You can be a part of promoting these key messages to your employers, employees, clients, and colleagues. Download the MT Week poster/flyer and post it in your workplace, share it with your clients, and promote it to regulatory agencies and legislators. If you are an MT or MT employer, consider an investment in this future value proposition by enrolling yourself or your employees in our Speech Recognition Editing Course and receive a special $100 discount off the cost of registration for May and June courses in celebration of MT Week.
