President's Address--Out From the Shadows
Throughout my volunteer career with AHDI I have often used the phrase "We are the silent partner in health care." My goal throughout my tenure has been to engage our professionals to discover and understand the impact each of us has as a patient advocate. As healthcare transforms, as patient care becomes more interactive, as reimbursement becomes more connected with value versus volume, we must drive our knowledge set out from the shadows. Read more.

A Word From Your National Leadership Board
As I was writing this, I received a call from the Red Cross requesting a blood donation to help replenish critically low blood supplies. February is the month we celebrate Valentine’s Day, giving focus and attention to those special people in our lives. Read more.
President's Address
February is American Heart Month, and some of us will recall our 2007 campaign "Change is Everything" in which we promoted heart disease awareness and living a healthier lifestyle, as heart disease is the #1 killer among women. In women it can also be silent in its onset. We must be diligent in keeping stress in check and creating outlets for good health and peace of mind. Read more.

A Word From Your National Leadership Board
The AHDI Board of Directors would like to wish each of our members Happy New Year!
As we approach a new year, many of us take time to reflect on the past year, our accomplishments and also some of the things we need to improve. Some set some goals and priorities for the next year. This year, as I took time to do this, I decided to set those priorities in categories and give those priorities some tentative completion dates. I found an app for my iPad to help me organize these into personal and professional categories and am hopeful this will aid in my success of carrying out those goals. I have categories for household projects, trips my husband and I wish to take in our motorhome, family goals, and personal goals. Professionally, I have two main goals I am working toward: (1) obtaining my CMT credential and (2) progressing to the next transcription level within my company. So what goals have you set?
As a Board, we have spent the last couple of months focusing not only on the here and now but also on setting priorities for 2013 so that we position our Association to be more successful in representing each of our members. Despite the holiday, December was a busy month and these are some of the things we worked on to position us for the year ahead. Read more.

President's Address
Happy New Year, from the entire AHDI National Leadership Board. As we pack up the hustle and bustle of the holidays, hold cherished memories and crazy holiday experiences close to our hearts, and as we correct our authors/dictators on what year this really is, it is with pleasure that I share what I see inner AHDI "buzz" of the last few weeks as we move into 2013.
While recuperating from my third cold of 4th quarter 2012, I caught the tail end of the "Bee" movie recently. It reminded me of our position in health care. We all know that if it was not documented, it did not occur. This will be even more paramount as we move through the next stages of meaningful use and with ICD-10 implementation. As subject-matter experts, we understand that EHR-derived data is not reliable unless the documentation is accurate, complete, and unique to the patient—a statement our Advocacy Alliance subgroup is punctuating throughout the development of our Meaningful Use Stage 3 comments. A Word From Your National Leadership Board
We are quickly approaching the end of the calendar year. I am a little partial to the month of November for two reasons: The first being that I celebrate my birthday at the beginning of the month and the second being we celebrate Thanksgiving at the end of the month. I try to have a grateful attitude all year long but like the chance to focus more intently on my blessings and the things I am grateful for during November. Read more.
