Resource Central: September Deal of the Month

For the month of September, AHDI is bundling our RMT and CMT exam guides for the first time ever! If you are not credentialed, now is the time to start preparing! These guides are perfect for prepping for the Credential Qualifying Exam (CQE). Now that summer is coming to an end, it's time to pick up the pace and delve into the world of professional development by becoming a credential healthcare documentation specialist. To help with this effort, we are bundling our new guides and applying an extra $10 discount on the eligible member price, for a total savings of $40 off the list price!

RMT Exam Guide: A Walk Through the Blue Print

The RMT guide is written under AHDI's new exam blue print for the Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) exam. The text provides a structured approach to understanding the cognitive assessment (multiple-choice) domains for the exam. For each Level 1 objective, users will find:

  • Identification, explanation, and a rationale for the competency being defined by the objective.

  • Recommended resources, including chapters and sections, for focused study of objective content.

  • Sample questions in exam style and format for orientation and practice.

In addition, the text provides a 91-question multiple-choice practice test to assist candidates with self-assessment and domain analysis. The Appendix houses a blue print check list and other resources.

The CMT Exam Guide: A Walk Through the Blue Print

This text is designed to be used as a supplemental study guide in preparation for the AHDI Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) exam. Students and practitioners who seek access to the CMT exam need to begin that process of preparation with a strong orientation to the exam blue print.

This book provides potential exam candidates with a "walk through the blue print," the goal of which is to make sure that the CMT candidate has a clear understanding of the industry's expectations of competency for a Level 2 candidate and the content domains against which a candidate will be evaluated on the exam. This CMT Exam Guide: A Walk Through the Blue Print is, by design, an orientation specifically to the cognitive assessment (multiple-choice) objectives housed on the blue print.

This guide includes the following:

  • Statement of Objective from the CMT Blue Print

  • Recommendations for Focused Study

  • CMT Blue Print Checklist

  • "BONUS" EHR Glossary

  • Sample Questions for Each Objective

  • Complete Start-to-Finish CMT Practice Test

Power Up! CQE Prep Workshop at ACE 2011

Featured Workshop:

Power Up! CQE Prep Workshop
Friday, August 19, 2011
3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Presenter: Lea Sims, CMT, AHDI-F

What is the CQE? If you are an acute-care MT with more than 2 years’ experience and a desire to sit for the CMT exam, changes in credentialing policy now require you to demonstrate RMT (level 1) competency before moving on to the level 2 CMT exam content. To make this easier for CMT candidates, we are offering a fast track exam option that will allow candidates to sit for both the RMT and CMT exams in a single exam session—the Credential Qualifying Exam (CQE). With new exam blue prints and exam prep materials available for public consumption and candidate preparation, we are pleased to announce a new workshop available at ACE 2011 in Phoenix.

This two-hour interactive workshop is designed to walk CQE candidates through both exam blue prints, take the fear out of exam preparation, and give candidates an organizational approach to studying both the RMT and CMT exams. Workshop attendees will receive tips, strategies, and practice exercises that will give you a better understanding of what to expect on AHDI credentialing exams. In addition, all attendees will receive a "Power Pack" resource kit, filled with exam prep items from either of the two workshop bundle options below. Choose from one of the following:

CQE Workshop Package 1—The Basic Power Pack includes:
  • CQE Prep Workshop – Friday, August 19
  • RMT Exam Guide
  • CMT Exam Guide
  • Book of Style Workbook
  • Total = $90 on or before August 1 and $135 after August 1

CQE Workshop Package 2—The Complete Power Pack includes:
  • CQE Prep Workshop – Friday, August 19
  • RMT Exam Guide
  • CMT Exam Guide
  • Book of Style Workbook
  • CMT Prep CD I
  • CMT Prep CD II
  • CMT Prep CD III
  • Total = $150 on or before August 1 and $225 after August 1

Don’t miss this phenomenal opportunity for resources and hands-on exam guidance and support. For anyone serious about becoming credentialed, this workshop is a "must see" session at ACE. After the workshop, stop by the AHDI Pavilion to have your products signed by the authors and chat about testing. This workshop is a separately ticketed item not included with Full Registration.

New Credentialing Exams Launched!

AHDI is excited to announce the official launch of our new credentialing exams and new online testing provider Kryterion! After a long year of marketplace surveying, revision of our exam blue prints, item-writing for our new exams, and conducting an amazingly successful beta exam*, we are ready to open our new exam process. Candidates seeking access to the RMT and CMT exams can now submit eligibility fees via the AHDI eligibility page. The eligibility fee for all exams is $10 and can only be submitted via the AHDI online store (access to exams cannot be sought directly from Kryterion). Eligibility and exam pricing is based on both membership status and current credential (if any). As a reminder, you will not be granted eligibility for the CMT exam unless you have a current RMT credential. New graduates and MTs without the minimum 2 years’ experience in acute care will be granted eligibility for the RMT exam. Level 2 MTs who do not possess a current RMT credential, will be granted eligibility access to both the RMT and the new credential qualifying exam (CQE) and will have the option to register, pay for, and take either exam.

Please be advised that while the CMT and RMT exams are now open for purchase and scheduling, the CQE is currently under technical construction and will not be available until early February. You can check back in February to submit your eligibility fee at that time or you are free to submit it now. If you opt to submit it now, you will receive an Authorization to Test email from AHDI with a login and password to the Kryterion Webassessor® platform, but you will not find the credential qualifying exam (CQE) available in the exam catalog until early February. Your eligibility is good for 90 days from the date it is issued, so you may want to wait until early February to submit your eligibility fee.

*Of 177 beta candidates who took the combined exam, 136 passed the RMT portion, and 41 of those went on to pass the CMT portion, resulting in 95 new RMTs and 41 new CMTs!

Certification: New Competencies. New Exams. New Options.

AHDI is excited to announce the launch of our revised credentialing program. Our credentialing development team (CDT) and staff have been working diligently for the last year to provide this sector with exams and test taker options that will move our industry toward the goal of transitioning our workforce to a fully credentialed status. We are pleased to offer the industry the following revised programmatic outcomes:

New! Exam Blue Prints – Both the RMT and CMT exam blue prints have been updated to remove duplication of objectives, clarify competencies and objectives based on our 2010 Job Task Analysis, and add competencies related to computer technology, health IT, and SRT editing, per the evolving needs of our marketplace.

New! Exams – The RMT and CMT exams have been completely rewritten, and all previously administered test items have been retired from exam circulation. Candidates will encounter items written specifically to comply with the competency objectives on the new exam blue prints.

New! Policy Change – As of January 1, 2011, the RMT credential will become a required prerequisite for access to the CMT examination. Candidates seeking access to the Level 2 CMT content will now be required to demonstrate Level 1 competency for CMT eligibility.

New! Exam Option – Candidates seeking access to the Level 2 CMT exam who do not already possess a current RMT credential will be required to either (a) take the RMT exam and come back later to take the CMT, or (b) take the new Credential Qualifying Exam (CQE) to have access to both Level 1 RMT and Level 2 CMT content in a single exam session.

New! Testing Provider – AHDI will launch these new exams with Kryterion, a full-service test deployment and delivery company that offers secure, proctored examinations at both on-site testing centers and online via live, webcam-monitored testing sessions. Candidates who can ensure hardware/software compatibility and consistent, high-speed internet connection will have the option of taking AHDI examinations online starting in January.

As you might expect, the enormity and complexity of these changes has meant a complete overhaul of AHDI credentialing guides, web pages, and resource information. We are excited to announce that this information is now available for your review and preparation. Refer to the list in the column to the right for quick access to these resources, but it will be important to start by downloading our updated candidate guide below.
